Central and Eastern Europe, CIS: Within a framework contract we assist the management of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Individual projects have been, among others: - Kyrgyzstan: Legal due diligence of a glass container manufacturing plant;
- Latvia: Technical, market and commercial assessment of a company producing plastic packaging;
- Russian Federation: Technical, market and commercial assessment of a producer of packaging materials for the food industry;
- Turkmenistan: Preliminary technical, market and commercial assessment of a company producing woven polypropylene sacks;
- Turkmenistan: legal due diligence of a manufacturer of corrugated cardboard;
- Uzbekistan: Initial technical/commercial and financial due diligence, and legal due diligence of two food processing and packaging companies.
- Russian Federation/Irkutsk: Restructuring of two of the largest pulp and paper plants in Russia. We assisted the clients in a strategic restructuring project to find a profitable future for the two companies taking into account their importance as the main employers in the region and the environmental situation of the Lake Baikal region.
- Russian Federation/Kaliningrad: Restructuring and re-organisation of a large producer of pulp, offset paper, corrugated cardboard boxes, fodder yeast, wallpaper, raw rubber and printing rollers. We assisted the company in the re-organisation of the management structure and the assessment of a new investment to increase the present production of corrugated cardboard.

Egypt: Business Upgrading of 6 Local Packaging Suppliers (plastics, cardboard, adhesives hot melt and printing) to a Dairy Manufacturer. The project was divided in four phases: benchmarking/ gap analysis, identification of companies’ potential, elaboration of upgrading action plans and elaboration of Terms of Reference for upgrading of the companies (gap closure).
- Egypt: Upgrading of 12 Local Packaging Material Suppliers to a Leading Egyptian Manufacturer. The project was divided into three distinct phases: technical and financial audit of each company, benchmarking/ gap analysis against best practice, and the elaboration of GAP Closure / Business Upgrading action plans for each of the suppliers. The companies assisted were 3 plastic (polythene & polypropylene) packaging manufacturers, 6 corrugated board packaging manufacturers, 2 Scotch tape & carton manufacturing companies, and a printing & labelling company.

Egypt: As part of Egypt’s Industrial Modernisation Programme, PC&A provided Business Upgrading Services in Production Optimization to 15 companies in the Furniture Sector. Based on benchmarking with international best practices, individual action plans were drafted and implemented with the assistance of our team. Across the companies, the emphasis was on (in descending order of importance): Processes and handling; Planning, Costing & Pricing; Materials & Packaging; Waste recovery; Quality Assurance & Quality Spirit; Dust in spraying; Export & showrooms; Human Resources & Training; and Design.

Jordan: Establishment of an R&D department for a privately owned company in the absorbent hygiene business. After an assessment of the client's activities and equipment, PC&A analysed the tissue market with a geographical focus on Middle East and Africa. PC&A drafted an organisational chart to visualise the R&D department’s interaction with other departments, especially the marketing division. Furthermore, detailed job descriptions were written, candidates trained and R&D Standards for Procedures introduced.

Jordan: For a Jordanian producer of wooden doors and furniture, PC&A simultaneously assisted in the company in improving its human resources management and in setting up a marketing function within the sales department.
- Jordan: Within the Jordanian Private Sector Development Programme we provided Technical Assistance to a Jordanian company specialised in the design, production and sales of computer forms, labels and packaging material.
- Jordan: Market research and elaboration of a marketing and sales strategy, including product development and the implementation of a marketing plan. Among the companies assisted is a manufacturer producing furniture based on metal and wood components, mainly office furniture, school and library furniture.

Lebanon: PC&A assisted in the establishment of a Lebanese Packaging Centre that would help Lebanese packaging manufactures and industrial packers to enhance the quality of their output and to meet the packaging standards expected of them in their target markets. We defined the structure of the Centre, its organisation chart as well as the materials and the technical equipments required and ensured the approximation of the final project to the Lebanese regulations and legislation.
- Lebanon: Under the EuroMed Partnership agreement between Lebanon and the EU PC&A was asked to carry out a Business Analysis and Diagnostic Study of 60 Lebanese SMEs from various sectors in order to help them improve their competitive position and thus prepare for new opportunities and increased competition resulting from the EU-Lebanese Free Trade agreement. Among the sectors were Agro-Food; Textile; Furniture; Printing; Detergents; Construction; Marble and Glass; Packaging and IT.
- Morocco: Diagnosis of the printing sector, focusing on the organisation of the sector, the technological level, the processes, the integration level (procurement, positioning within the communication industry), environmental aspects, security, local demand, quality of products and services and the regulatory framework.
Other regions
- Argentina: PC&A was asked to assist the Ministry of Economy improving the competitiveness of SMEs in the forestry sector, with particular focus on improving the business environment for the sector. After an initial analysis of the threats and weakness of the sector, we elaborated a strategy to ensure the sustainability of the sector’s development. The strategy included measures to ensure the sustainable protection and exploitation of the forest’s natural resources; the introduction of new technologies in the sector and strengthening of the institutions which offer services to SMEs in the sector.
- Austria: A chemical and paper group asked us for assistance in the strategic, technical and economical evaluation of a Joint-venture with a Polish paper mill. We assessed the economic risks and benefits and concluded with a recommended purchasing price.
- Germany: A producer of corrugated paper board asked us to perform a cost bench marking study compared to a selected number of competitors.
- Switzerland: We were responsible for the strategic development of a large paper and packaging group.
A supplier of equipment, engineering and consumables for the coating of packaging metals (aluminium and plastic foil) asked us to evaluate possible diversification into packaging materials.
We assisted the packaging division of a European materials company in the evaluation of acquisitions in plastic moulded packaging for the cosmetics industry.
