  • Algeria: SME Centre of Expertise. This EUR 10.9 M project is part of the MEDA programme to strengthen the private sector in Algeria in view of the entering into force of the EU-MEDA Association Agreement. To achieve this objective, the project has been divided into 4 components:
    • Direct assistance to SMEs (Business upgrading)
    • Technical assistance to the financial sector to improve SMEs access to finance
    • SME policy advice to government bodies and technical assistance to intermediary organisations, such as Chambers of Commerce, Industry associations, Information centres etc. with the aim of improving the enabling environment.
    • A horizontal component dedicated to training of SME managers and staff (topics: financial management, quality, marketing, etc.).
  • Egypt: PC&A assisted eight companies in establishing effective human resource practices within their organisations to ensure the commitment and motivation of company personnel. Priority was given to upgrading organisational structures, employee conditions/benefits, salary structures, development schemes, recruitment objectives, job roles and descriptions, and management/HR policies within and across the different business departments of the client companies.
  • Jordan: PC&A assisted a pharmaceutical manufacturing company in designing and implementing a comprehensive operational reorganisation programme. The aim of the programme was mainly to enlarge the production capacity for further expansion into export markets and to enhance its production standards to comply with WTO regulations. PC&A introduced a new performance appraisal system, including new job descriptions for all key functions and a two-year strategic action plan.
  • Lebanon – Under the EuroMed Partnership agreement between Lebanon and the EU PC&A was asked to carry out a Business Analysis and Diagnostic Study of 60 Lebanese SMEs from various sectors in order to help them improve their competitive position and thus prepare for new opportunities and increased competition resulting from the EU-Lebanese Free Trade agreement. Among the sectors were Agro-Food; Textile; Furniture; Printing; Detergents; Construction; Marble and Glass; Packaging and IT.
  • Poland: Strengthening of the competitiveness of various industry sectors. We assisted Polish institutions of various industrial sectors and companies in the strengthening of their competitiveness, the adaptation to market and competitive threats and opportunities and the enhancement of their export performance. The following sectors were covered: machine tools, machinery and equipment, medical equipment, rubber and plastics products, glass and porcelain, construction industry products, electrical appliances
